Country Pubs & Inns

The Wheatsheaf Inn

In the heart of the picturesque village of Brigsteer, The Wheatsheaf Inn offers superb food, great real ales and a fantastic range of wines. Refurbished with considerable care and attention, the Wheatsheaf is just three miles from the medieval market town of Kendal. Six newly opened cosy bedrooms are situated on site. We are family, walker, cyclist and dog friendly too. The historic inn is situated at the foot of Scout Scar, with its stunning panoramic views and on the edge of the damson-growing Lyth Valley. Parts of the Wheatsheaf date back to 1762 and it originally was three cottages with a shoeing room for horses. The premises then became an alehouse and it was first licensed in the early 1800s. Our 6 bedrooms are all different, offering a choice of doubles, twin or king sized beds depending on the room. With carefully selected furnishings, lovely Bath Store toiletries, tea & coffee facilities, and a freshly cooked breakfast to wake up to, you’re sure to feel at home. We look forward to welcoming you! Find out more here: Wheatsheaf Inn

The Mason's Arms

The Masons Arms occupies a beautiful part of Cartmel Fell with a stunning view that stretches all the way across the Winster and Lyth Valleys to Scout Scar in the distance.
The 17th Century building was originally a farm house, but due to its secluded location off the beaten track it soon became a meeting place for various groups of characters and naturally evolved into a pub. The character and authenticity have changed little and neither have the views! Our large terrace allows guests to sit and soak up the view at their leisure, whether recharging after a long walk, or relaxing after a delicious meal. Heritage is a well-loved part of the traditions of this inn. Our tiny bar is still laden with as many local beers and international brews as is possible, paying homage to the history of its beer menu that once held many hundreds. We use as many local suppliers as possible for all services and make our best efforts to promote the many talents of the artisan food producers on our doorstep. We also have two cottages, and five suites to accommodate guests and provide a cosy base to explore the Lake District from. Find out more here: Masons Arms
